Minister ~ Meet Pastor Mike Lamm
Mike was installed as pastor of First Presbyterian Church in October, 2006. He's been a guest preacher at Calvary UCC, Heidelberg UCC, and Piedmont Crossing and has participated in services at Memorial UMC and in several Martin Luther King celebrations. He's been active in several community organizations and activities such as Habitat for Humanity, community gardening, Rotary, and The Shepherd's Inn (shelter facilities for men and women).
With family roots in Texas, Mike lived in eleven states before he became an adult. Prior to moving here, he and his wife, Cathy, lived near St. Louis, MO for seventeen years. As a young adult he worked as a construction worker in Texas, Alaska, and North Africa. After marrying Cathy, he had a small recording business that evolved into designing loudspeakers.Mike was raised in a fundamentalist denomination and became a Presbyterian in his mid-twenties. He entered Eden Theological Seminary in 2002, graduating in 2006 with a Master of Divinity degree. He’s passionate about preaching, Bible study, and pastoral care. Mike enjoys working with his hands in hobbies such as woodworking, gardening, and cooking.
Cathy is a native of North Carolina and graduated from high school and nursing school in Winston Salem. After nursing school she spent two years in the Air Force and lived in Spain and England. Upon returning to North Carolina she earned her bachelor's degree at Pfeiffer College. After moving to Texas, she and Mike met at a Presbyterian singles retreat. Over the years she’s been involved in oncology nursing, worked in quality management in managed health care, parish nursing, and hospice nursing. She earned a Master's Degree in Public Health in 1998. Since moving here Cathy has taught nursing at Davidson County Community College and Forsyth Technical Community College. Cathy is a lifelong Presbyterian, an elder, and has always sung in the choir.
They both have an interest in mission and have been active in Habitat for Humanity style programs, I Have a Dream Foundation, mission trips to Hungary, and Stephen Ministry. They share interests in cooking, bird watching, and reading. She’s taught Mike to eat grits, country ham with red-eye gravy, and liver mush. He’s taught her to eat guacamole and chili con queso. They've been married over 30 years and have two children, Bill who lives in Dallas, Texas, where he's a sports writer for Basketball News Services, and Sharon, who lives in San Antonio and is the busy mother of four children.
